20180622 - Woodlands Sphere Test
173 / 365
Last year I posted a shot of my other half testing his 360 pano head and the equirectangular panorama it produces. The results are great at a very high resolution... but 'run & gun' it most definitely is not. The results can also be a bit overkill when you just want some basic 3D scene lighting.
Long story short - I got a Ricoh Theta SC 360º camera from Amazon Warehouse. I took it out today to do some more testing in our local patch of scrub. It's been a bit frustrating so far with very flaky wifi (it's controlled by a phone app) and some images are acceptably sharp... and some are most definitely not. Haven't figured out why yet.
Anyway, this is what one of the shots looks like when imported into Blender and used as the 360º background to light a 100% reflective sphere. Not too bad really.
If you want to have a VR look at the actual image, I've posted a couple of versions on Kuula (I'm hiding behind the big tree):

Note - if you open these on a phone, have it horizontal when you click the link. It should then move around as you wave the phone around. :)
